The council of Ministers has Approved during his session on October 10 2012, the amendment of article 15 of the Public Code of Contractuals , Nizam el Am lil Oujara2! 🙂
now, a woman contractual in the public sphere can benefit from a 60 day maternity leave instead of a 40 days maternity leave!!!!
Hourray!!! We are still waiting for the amendment of the Labor law articles 28-29 (maternity leave), and hoping to extend this maternity leave to at least 10 weeks in Lebanon… for all female employees!!!
A great Step forward By the Council of Ministers!!!

Dear Maya,
if you are in the Public sector, and abide to the “nizam el oujara2” if you are an “ajira” therefore, your maternity leave is extended from 40 days to 60 days.
if you are in the private sector, and are under the “labor law” “kanoun el 3amal” therefore, the maternity as said in my post, is still the same (49 days) , and we are waiting for Parliamentarians to change it.
As a reminder there are 3 types of maternity leave in Lebanon:
for the contractuals “oujara2” in the public sector, was 40 days, now is 60 days
for the “mouwazafine” in the public sector : 60 days
for the mouwazafine in the private sector : who abide to the Labor law: 49 days.
I hope that this helps you,
happy maternity leave!

The question remains, what and when about the private sector? Besides, why should there always be a difference between private sector and public, I don’t get it. Always something different: holidays, attendance, work, leaves… Even in this we cannot be united.

Now remains to know the when of the private sector. I don’t get why private and public sectors have to be different. … And that private companies get to have their rules while the government does the necessary with regard to unification, like holidays, leaves and so on. Evn here we cannot remain united.,
I hope this amendment passes onto private sector by end of year, so I would have more time with my first born due December…
