To achieve the goal that persons with disabilities participate fully in society and enjoy equal rights and opportunities,  Disability Rights Fund announces the 2012 “Implementing Our Rights” grant cycle which consists of two grant rounds.

The Disability Rights Fund (DRF) seeks to strengthen the participation of Disabled Persons’ Organizations (DPOs) in the advancement of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at country level in the Global South, Middle East, and Eastern Europe/former Soviet Union.

The 2012 “Implementing Our Rights” grant cycle consists of two grantmaking rounds:

1. The first grantmaking round, consisting of a Letter of Interest (LoI) process for DPOs in India (States of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Tamil Nadu or the National Capital of Delhi only) and Ukraine and a Request for Proposals (RFP) process for DPOs in Indonesia, Lebanon, and Mexico is described in more detail below. The deadline for the RFP is March 15, 2012.
2. The second grantmaking round, directed at DPOs in Bangladesh, PICs, Ghana, Uganda, Nicaragua and Peru, and consisting of both a LoI and RFP process, will be publicized in mid-2012.

Explanation of the Request for Proposals process follows.

Request for Proposals (for applicants from Indonesia, Lebanon and Mexico and successful LoI applicants from India and Ukraine)

Applicants can apply as:

1. Single organizations or partnerships for Small Grants OR
2. National DPO-led coalitions for National Coalition Grants

Single organizations or partnerships can apply for 12-month grants ranging from USD 5,000 to 20,000 to:

1. Increase DPO skill in addressing the CRPD by
   1. Building more inclusive organizations or partnerships; and/or
   2. Internal capacity building; and
2. Rights-based advocacy and monitoring through:
   1. Increasing DPO participation in decision-making processes regarding the CRPD at state or local levels; and/or
   2. Directly addressing implementation of CRPD Articles.

National DPO-led Coalitions can apply for the first year of 24-month grants ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 (60,000 to 100,000 over 24 months) to develop a national platform to work on:

1. Ratification of the CRPD and/or the Optional Protocol (where not ratified)
2. Passage of specific legislation to accord with the CRPD
3. Production of a parallel/alternative report to be submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
4. Production of a report to be submitted to other UN human rights monitoring mechanisms such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Human Rights Council or to other Committees of Experts from other human rights treaties

DRF supports projects that demonstrate a clear ability and commitment to contribute to the advancement of the human rights of persons with disabilities. Grants provide one- or two-year, project-specific support. Cross-disability and other partnerships in-country are strongly encouraged, as are projects which address particularly marginalized sectors of the disability community.

Al-Raida: Women & Disability in the Arab World

This special issue of Al-Raida on Women and Disability in the Arab World calls for papers addressing women’s experiences of disability in the Arab region. It is prompted by ongoing concern that the voices of disabled women in the Arab world, their allies and their representative organizations are seldom heard.

We wish to consider the lives of disabled Arab women in relation to contemporary debates about disability and society. We are interested in papers which explore ways in which disability is being experienced by Arab women. We also have in mind the concerns of women who are mothers of disabled children or practitioners working to support disabled women and girls. In this Special Issue we hope to provide the opportunity to share research and critical thinking on a wide range of topics, which will increase knowledge and understanding of Women & Disability in the Arab World.

  “The life of a man consists not in seeing visions and in dreaming dreams, but in active charity and in willing service” “Faith and Light” is organised on a human scale by groups called communities, comprising in equal shares persons with an intellectual disability, their… families and friends, especially young persons. Community members meet regularly for gatherings of friendship, sharing, prayer and celebration. Faith and Light numbers presently 1648 communities organized in 50 provinces located on five continents, in 79 countries and of 38 different languages. Two thirds of the countries where Faith and Light is present suffer from great economic difficulties or political instability.  Members of Faith and Light communities come from different Christian traditions, (catholic, protestants, anglican and orthodox…) without distinction of age, culture or income. This Dinner is organized to collect money from buying tickets for dinner (100,000 l.l. per card) and donations provided in the event. These dnations will sponsor the international Pilgrimage that will be held in LEBANON at the end of August. أربعون سنة مرت على تلقفنا هذه الدعوة ، بهذه المناسبة تقيم جماعات إيمان و نور إحتفالات يوبيلية على مدى سنتين لنشر روحانية هذه الجماعات و رسالتها التي تدعو إلى احترام الأشخاص الذين يحملون إعاقة عقلية و بناء علاقات أخوية ضمن جماعات رعائية منتشرة على كافة الأراضي اللبنانية. منذ سنة 1971 تعمل إيمان و نور لإعطاء أخوتنا الأكثر ضعفاً مكانتهم و دورهم الفاعل في قلب الكنيسة و تنمية حياتهم الروحية و الإجتماعية.

من ضمن هذه الإحتفالات تنظم جماعات إيمان و نور- مقاطعة “إلى الثالوث” حجّ ديني ومخيم لثمانمائة شخص الى مناطق دير الأحمر – رأس بعلبك من 30 آب الى2 أيلول 2012 بشفاعة سيدة بشوات و سيدة رأس بعلبك.

Order a meal to enhance the opportunities given for the disabled

 

Hello friends,

a recurrent project given by CRC to fundraise money for their projects aiming at enhance the opportunities offered for the disabled in Lebanon is the “ORDER A MEAL” project.

You at your work, in the office, at home, at university, can with your colleagues, comrades and family order meals from CRC , and the direct funding of the meals are going to CRC projects….

This year meals are offered by Clay restaurant. Each meal assembles a sandwich, a salad, a drink and a desert; with only 16000 LL you can help the physically disabled get the help they need!

I got Sabah from CRC on the phone, and her enthusiasm for the project was so encouraging!

Human Rights Festival (LEBANON)

Dears, you may have heard about the Human RIGHT FESTIVAL,

The 2011 Human Rights Film Festival will take place from 27th to 30th of January 2011 at Cinema Metropolis Empire Sofil, Beirut.Festivals play a powerful role in turning a delicate issue, like human rights abuses (torture and arbitrary detention, women’s rights, rights of refugees and migrant workers) in an accessible way for the general public.

As festivals reach a big audience, this is an important goal that we are willing to achieve through the screening of a series of documentaries on human rights in Lebanon.
The event will last 4 days and each one will focus on a specific human right issue:
Women’s rights – 27/01/2011
Refugees’ rights – 28/01/2011
Migrants’ rights and discrimination – 29/01/2011
Detainees’ rights and arbitrary detention – 30/01/2011

The program includes screening of human rights documentaries, artistic performances related to the same issue (music or theatre), speakers and panel discussions with the public.

The Festival will also host photo exhibitions, a selection of human rights publications available from the project’s Documentation Centre, will see the presence of all the 13 associations taking part at the “Human Rights is Lebanon” Coalition and much more!

Do not hesitate to Look at the program and come! The Festival is free to all!

*Handicap ou specificite? Experience vecue avec des personnes deficientes

Amour que de l’amour

Les rides de SARKIS, un des “freres” dont nous nous occupons dans l’association pour les personnes a mentalité réduite.

Un regard pénétrant, un regard qui a vécu et qui a vu beaucoup de choses dans sa vie.

On me dit que Sako comme on l’appelle est : malade,  je ne le vois pas, quand il me dit, ma fille « ya be nte » assied toi, quand il s’assure que j’ai été servie tout comme lui, j’ai eu ma part de biscuit, jus et gateau. Je ne vois pas la maladie.

Sako, dont le regard entoure de rides, cache un esprit ludique qui rit, et plaisante….

Sako vit dans son monde, calme, il rit seul et calmement, n’a pas de ses sorties ou crises que d’autres freres ont…

Sako… cher ancien, tu m’apprends beaucoup.

Marie : la fofolle qui ne parle pas, mais qui parle beaucoup. Et oui avec moults gestes, marie me raconte sa vie. Elle parle et parle, d’une facon volubile, et incomprehensible pour moi qui lui tient la main, lui fait des calins, et la serre pour qu’elle ne tombe pas.

En cadeau je lui ai donne un rouge a levre, elle le voulait tellement, et mon bracelet, en contrepartie, elle me laisse un chapelet, qui pandouille dans la voiture.. c’est Marie, avec ses boucles d’oreilles, son sac a main, ses ongles vernis, et son rouge a levre de travers.

Elle travaillait parait il dans la lingerie : laver les linges , les secher et les repasser…

Avec sa maladie, les sœurs, de vraies sœurs cette fois, le  lui ont interdit, et depuis , Marie est inconsolable… hein hein hein et geste, et hein hein hein, elle me raconte elle pleure, elle gesticule et hein hein hein, que puis je faire, lui donner un cadeau, l’embrasser et la serrer…

Ammo Geryes,

Eh oui le phenomene, nous l’aimons tous, même si des fois violent, il nous frappe, ammo geryes et le dynamo du groupe, il repete tous les mots et phrases qu’il entend, ammo geryes même s’il sent mauvais a bon cœur , tu lui tiens la main, il se calme, il te trouve jolie, il s’asseoie a cote de toi et essaye de se taire pour moins de 10 secondes J

Et oui ammo geryes, qui te donne sa montre qui lui fait mal au poignet, qui porte une allousse, ou bonnet de laine, et qui avec son pyjama sous le manteau et ses grosses bottes rouges ressemble a un pepe bien decapite…

Oh ammo geryes qui se met a se cacher durant les prieres, et qui nous chante et rigole de facon incongrue, je t’aime !

Avec sa maladie, les sœurs, de vraies sœurs cette fois, le lui ont interdit, et depuis , Marie est inconsolable… hein hein hein et geste, et hein hein hein, elle me raconte elle pleure, elle gesticule et hein hein hein, que puis je faire, lui donner un cadeau, l’embrasser et la serrer…

 

 

 

 

Ammo Geryes,

Eh oui le phenomene, nous l’aimons tous, même si des fois violent, il nous frappe, ammo geryes et le dynamo du groupe, il repete tous les mots et phrases qu’il entend, ammo geryes même s’il sent mauvais a bon cœur , tu lui tiens la main, il se calme, il te trouve jolie, il s’asseoie a cote de toi et essaye de se taire pour moins de 10 secondes J

Et oui ammo geryes, qui te donne sa montre qui lui fait mal au poignet, qui porte une allousse, ou bonnet de laine, et qui avec son pyjama sous le manteau et ses grosses bottes rouges ressemble a un pepe bien decapite…

Oh ammo geryes qui se met a se cacher durant les prieres, et qui nous chante et rigole de facon incongrue, je t’aime !
