and this is something I live everyday, and I encounter eveyday at work, here is our story:
My colleague at work and I were discussing it, because we discovered that our other colleagues don’t show up at work before 10 am, and what they do to overcome the system, and not tell their managers, is that one colleague comes in the morning ( yes she manages to show at 9ham) and enters each other colleagues password in the “tekbiss machine” the machine used to enter some digits and helps compagnies to know who came, at what hour and how many extra hours they did…
briefly, so one colleague shows up at 9ham, and enters each of the other colleagues, and the other colleagues come at 10h, or some at 10h30, without even telling and notifying the managers that they ‘ll be late, so at the end of the month, all those colleagues always arrive at 9h (the hour works begin), and they even take extra hours if they stay longer.
For me this is Cheating, simple cheating and having unethical behaviour at work.
At first, I couldnt stand my”cheaters” colleagues anymore, now I feel like “tanpis” . If they do it, they think they can gain something from it, and they are happy because they found the trick, to overpass the “tekbiss ” machine.
I have never said something to my “cheater” colleagues about it, if they are unethical I can’t work on changing them, I have so much work to do, I don’t have time to argue with them.
My “ethical ” colleague argued with them, and they said, everybody does it, and “what are you loosing”, they mean ” what does our behavior do to you?”
Punctuality, and ethical behaviors are a must, at work and in life in general, unethical behavior is for me = to cheating= to this is why we are still way back in work development and progress.
as for the explanation of the unethical rationalisation do not hesitate to read the article I was dragged too by my Mustapha’s post today.
Rita Chemaly , an employee ( a researcher and activist become an employee in Lebanon grrr) working and trying to be ethical everyday in a country where “everybody does it!” except me and very few others!
